I was reminded today of what I consider one of the most significant breakthroughs in recent years. It was an idea by Brad Pilon that the heat generated through exercise and even exposure to heat, in general, is one of the reasons your body sheds fat. He wrote an entire book on the subject. I've always been my leanest when the workouts I was doing made me sweaty. When I'm in a commercial gym the thing that makes me sweaty is doing intervals on a Stepmill. At home, I do this with kettlebells. *I'm currently using Lightning Rounds, but Visual Impact Kettlebells workout is one of my favorites for this as well. In the past, we always assumed it was the sweat-producing workout that caused a person to get lean. The sets and reps burn calories... And that is why these types of workouts help us get lean. Getting hot and sweaty isn't the only reason we get lean. But I'm convinced it greatly accelerates fat loss. Obviously, a calorie deficit from diet and exercise plays a role but... Brad even shows that hunger hormones are affected by heat. It makes it easier to stay lean without thinking about it.
